Our Studio

       The YY Piano Studio, founded in 2012 in St. John’s, NL by Ms. Yaying Tu, extends a warm welcome to students of all ages and skill levels.

        After having completed her first university degree in Music Education in China, Ms. Tu obtained her Bachelor of Music (major in Piano) from Memorial University of Newfoundland’s School of Music. Subsequently, she pursued graduate studies and earned her Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy both from Memorial University.  

        Ms. Tu is very passionate about teaching piano and has taught piano lessons for over 20 years.  She strives for excellence in her teaching and constantly reflects on how she can improve the learning experience of her students. She has taught students of all ages (from 5-year-olds to seniors) and tailors her teaching to each individual’s needs. While creating an enjoyable learning environment for her students, Ms. Tu provides guidance to her students to set goals and motivates them to achieve their goals. She has also built on her unique background and developed teaching strategies by combining Eastern and Western philosophies.

        Many of Ms. Tu's students undergo Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams, with numerous achieving success beyond RCM Level 10. Some excel in piano competitions like the annual Kiwanis Music Festival, while others pursue piano majors at the university level and beyond.

        The YY Piano Studio has earned a reputation as a sought-after destination for piano lessons, culminating in the receipt of a Gold Medal for Music Lessons in St. John’s in 2023.
